Широко рассматриваемый аналог неразрушающей проверки (NDI). Более точно, количественный анализ NDI результатов используется для определения, будет ли материал годен для использования, несмотря на присутствие несплошностей. С NDE дефекты могут быть классифицированы по размерам, форме, типам и локализации, позволяя исследователю определить, является или нет дефект(ы) допустимым(и). Проектные допустимые повреждения основаны на концепции обеспечения безопасной работы в присутствии дефектов.
